Minnesota (and more!) Resources
A few organizations in Minneapolis you can support:
Stand With Minnesota - a directory of different forms of assistance for Minneapolis
ICE out of MN - with resources on how to participate for those outside of MN too!
Minneapolis Mutual Aid links

Local to IA:
Activist’s Toolkit Des Moines zine by Sonia Ashe and Natalie McDaniels
Helpful Readings:
Completing the Stress Cycle - information on how our bodies process stress, and how to complete the “stress cycle” and discharge some of the built-up stress (even if the stressor is ongoing).
What a rage-filled heart, an exhausted heart, a terrified heart, and a grieving heart have in common - written by an activist from Milwaukee, WI
Stay Sane: 80 Tiny Moves to Resist Digital Despair and News Overwhelm in the Trump Era - this Substack has other helpful resources for managing information overload and taking care of mental health while remaining active
Grounds For Hope by Rebecca Solnit - the Foreword to the Third Edition of her book Hope In The Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities (published in 2015, still very relevant today). Her perspective on hope is so helpful for me; she described it as a verb, as a source of possibility and opportunity in the face of uncertainty. I really recommend Solnit’s writing for people feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, and rudderless.
Social Change Ecosystem Map - a visual representation of many of the different roles that people can play in social change - we don’t all have to do the same thing! I really like this map as a way to imagine different ways to contribute. The creator, Deepa Iyer, also has a blog entry with ideas on how to adapt the model to 2026.
Watch: What I’ve Learned From Reading History by Jamelle Bouie - about 9 minutes - a bit of an excerpt from a talk he gave at Grinnell College (in Iowa). A really helpful perspective on thinking of social justice fights on a longer time frame, even when we want immediate change from the perspective of the abolition movement. He also talks about human agency and why what we do does matter!

“Your opponents would love you to believe that it’s hopeless, that you have no power, that there’s no reason to act, that you can’t win. Hope is a gift you don’t have to surrender, a power you don’t have to throw away. And though hope can be an act of defiance, defiance isn’t enough reason to hope. But there are good reasons.”
- Rebecca Solnit, Grounds For Hope, from Hope in the Dark
