Resiliency Coaching

What if you could cut through all the wellness noise and actually make changes that stick?

You know what you want:

to have energy for what matters

to manage your symptoms without being consumed by them

to feel more vibrant and whole.

But between conflicting health advice on social media and one-size-fits-all programs, it's hard to know what will actually work for your body and your life.

That's where Resiliency Coaching comes in.

I blend two powerful approaches: the holistic wisdom of Chinese medicine practices (yang sheng, or "nourishing life") with evidence-based health coaching techniques focused on nutrition, sleep, stress management, and recovery.

This combination gives us a rich toolkit to work with - and more importantly, a way to find the small, sustainable changes that create lasting impact.

How We Work Together

Your Initial Series (4 Appointments)

  • First Appointment (60 minutes)
We explore your health history and the goals that matter most to you. Together, we'll identify what you can start experimenting with right away.

  • Your Customized Guide
Within a few days, you'll receive a personalized guide in your patient portal with practices, activities, and/or journaling prompts tailored to you. This includes your Chinese medicine diagnosis (if applicable) and explains why these practices support your goals.

  • Between Appointments
You'll have access to an app where you can track your progress and reflections. I'll check in periodically with feedback and support - you're not figuring this out alone!

  • Follow-Up Appointments (3 sessions, every 2 weeks)
We’ll meet every two weeks to discuss what you're discovering, what's working, and what needs adjusting. This spacing gives you time to actually try things and see what fits your life.

Investment

  • Initial Wellness Coaching Series: $450
(Or three installments of $150, paid every 2 weeks)

All new coaching clients begin with the initial series of four appointments - it gives us time to really dig into your goals and helps you build momentum for lasting change.

  • After Your Initial Series
Once you've completed the initial package, you can schedule follow-up appointments as needed at $115 each (includes 2 weeks of app communication between sessions).

What Makes This Different

  • This is truly collaborative. I'm not here to tell you what to do or hand you a rigid meal plan. Instead, we work together to discover what actually resonates with you, what fits into your life, and what your body is asking for right now.

  • It's built for real life, and real brains. My approach is neurodivergent-affirming and designed around incremental steps that work with how you think and function best. We focus on adding practices that support you, not eliminating everything you enjoy.

  • It goes beyond the appointment. While acupuncture appointments happen every week or so, coaching gives you daily practices that build resiliency over time. This is how we create that lasting positive impact: small shifts that compound into genuine transformation.

  • You get both traditional, time-tested wisdom and modern science. I bring a holistic view of your health while helping you navigate concrete, practical changes. We’ll weave together Chinese medicine yang sheng practices and current evidence-based nutrition and health guidance to help you honor your body's signals and avoid health fads.

The best part? We can work together from anywhere. All coaching appointments are available online or in person at my Des Moines clinic.

FAQs

  • The purpose of Resiliency Coaching is to help you create a scaffolding of practices that will support you in making change and achieving your health goals. When working together, we focus on discovering what support you need - and what support you already have! - so that you can move forward with a strong foundation.

These appointments are designed to give you every ounce of my expertise as a Licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese medicine practitioner, trained herbalist, and certified health coach from the convenience of your home. (For more information on my qualifications, visit my About Me page!)

Acupuncture is just one aspect of Chinese medicine! Many aspects of Chinese medicine can (and should!) be done regularly, by you, at home. These appointments will teach you which practices to use and how to use them - so you can create lasting change.

  • Every plan is customized to you, but here are some of the practices we might explore together:

    • Food therapy aligned with your constitution and the season

    • Sleep habit refinement

    • Movement practices (tai ji, qi gong, gentle stretching)

    • Meditation and self-cultivation techniques

    • Spending time in nature

    • Herbal medicine recommendations

    • Book, podcast, or media that supports your journey

    • And more, based on what resonates with you!

  • I am emphatically weight-neutral in my approach. I don’t think everyone needs to lose weight to be healthy, and I don’t think people of low weights are, by default, healthy. I don’t teach or emphasize fad diets or diet culture in my practice, and I encourage my patients and coaching clients to be skeptical of social media diet trends.

Food therapy is not a diet. Chinese medicine food therapy is not interested in counting calories, losing weight, macros, or other diet culture ideas. Simply put, food therapy is about adding or minimizing foods/drinks that correspond to your Chinese medicine diagnosis, along with the season and weather. The practices are body-weight neutral.

If it is a good fit, I also work with people to explore what they are currently eating and how they could make some changes to better support their health. I use evidence-based practices to help people work on basic, but important habits: eating more fruits and vegetables, getting enough food to meet the energy needs for their day, and more.

  • Unfortunately, no - FSA/HSA cards can only be used for appointments that include acupuncture. (Current acupuncture patients can schedule 75-minute Acupuncture + Coaching appointments, which may be covered by their HSA/FSA card.)

  • No! Resiliency Coaching is not a substitute for therapy with a licensed practitioner.

Instead, we collaborate to develop skills and techniques to help improve your resiliency, work towards goals, and improve your baseline health.

  • No, and my role does not replace RDs in your treatment plan. Registered Dietitians are licensed to provide nutritional care to treat or manage Western medical diagnoses such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, etc.

My role can be complementary to the nutritional guidance that your RD has provided, and I am happy to collaborate with you to find Chinese medicine food therapy that works within the framework they have provided, as well as troubleshoot ways to incorporate their recommended dietary guidance into your day-to-day life. I am also able to coordinate care directly with the RD as needed.

  • Yes! If you decide you would like to start getting acupuncture after your initial Resiliency Coaching appointments, let me know! We can work together to find an available time for you to start acupuncture. Please note that I do have a waitlist for acupuncture appointments, so there may be a delay before you will be able to start treatments.

Depending on what we have discussed in your coaching appointments, we may need to schedule the extended initial acupuncture appointment so I can have all the details I need to develop your treatment plan.

  • There are a few ways to access your virtual appointment:

    1. On the day of your appointment, you will be emailed a link to join a secure, HIPPA-compliant video call in the patient portal (the account you created when you scheduled your appointment). A few minutes before your appointment, you can click the link “click here to join the session” in the email you receive, and you’ll be taken directly to the video call.

    2. Alternatively, you can also visit the patient portal at your appointment time and click the camera icon next to your appointment time.

    3. You can use the app on your phone or tablet by opening the app and tapping on the camera icon next to your appointment.
