Lifestyle Coaching appointments offer a unique opportunity to develop and customize your yang sheng practices tailored to your Chinese medicine diagnosis, constitution, season, and weather. The best part? You can enjoy the benefits of Chinese medicine practices and theory without hands-on treatments like acupuncture; this means you can be anywhere in the world, and we can still work together!

Learning techniques to promote harmony through food therapy and lifestyle practices is essential to Chinese medicine. These practices are called yang sheng, or nourishing life, and are the foundation of health in Chinese medicine. Traditionally, these techniques helped manage symptoms and patterns people experience while helping them avoid developing new diseases, too! In other words, these practices help us recover and build resiliency, which helps us better cope with our current health challenges and manage stress when it happens.

The Coaching Process

  1. Lifestyle Coaching appointments start with a 60-minute virtual appointment where we discuss your health history and the main goals you’d like to work on. Then, we’ll discuss initial practices you can start trying right away!

  2. A customized plan and guide to yang sheng practices will be uploaded to your account within a few days of your first appointment. This guide will describe your Chinese medicine diagnosis, summarize what we discussed in your appointment, and provide additional practices to incorporate into your day-to-day life. There will also be activities for you to work on and areas to check in and journal regularly to help keep on track.

  3. You’ll start working on some of the practices and have access to an app to share your progress. The app has journals for you to record what you’re working on, and it shares your information directly with me! I will periodically respond between appointments with any feedback I may have.

  4. After two weeks, we will have a 60-minute follow-up appointment to discuss how things are going and update the treatment suggestions based on the progress made. (We wait a few weeks between appointments to give you time to experiment and integrate the changes we’ve discussed!)

  5. Then, we’ll meet two more times - once every two weeks.

Each Initial Lifestyle Coaching package includes four appointments: one initial 60-minute appointment and three 60-minute follow-up appointments. This package also includes periodic feedback in the app for up to two weeks after each appointment.

The initial Lifestyle Coaching package is $450. You can also pay in three installments of $150 each; you will see this option when purchasing the package. If you choose to pay in installments, you will be required to pay $150 at the time of booking your initial appointment and then will be charged $150 every two weeks, for a total of three payments of $150. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!

All new Lifestyle Coaching patients must participate in the initial series first - it allows us to dig into your health concerns and gives you time to commit to making change! After you’ve completed this series, you have the option to schedule as needed. Follow-up appointments are $100 each and include 2 weeks of communication and feedback between appointments.

FAQs

  • Food therapy is not a diet! Chinese medicine food therapy is not interested in counting calories, losing weight, macros, or other diet culture ideas. Simply put, food therapy is about adding or minimizing foods/drinks that correspond to your Chinese medicine diagnosis, along with the season and weather. The practices are body weight neutral, and my role is not to help people change their weight.

  • Unfortunately, no - FSA/HSA cards can only be used for appointments that include acupuncture.

  • There are many things that Chinese medicine food therapy and lifestyle techniques can help with - if you’re not sure if they are right for you, please feel free to email me and we can discuss it more specifically!

  • No, and my role does not replace RDs in your treatment plan. Registered Dietitians are licensed to provide nutritional care to treat or manage Western medical diagnoses such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, etc. My role can be complementary to nutritional guidance that your RD has provided, and I am happy to collaborate with you to find Chinese medicine food therapy that works within the framework they have provided. I am also able to coordinate care directly with the RD as needed.

  • Maybe not! This is something that is good to check in on during your next appointment because it can vary from person to person. If you’d like to continue to work on something with Lifestyle Coaching that you’re already being treated for in the clinic, we may not need to start fresh. However, if it’s a new topic or something we haven’t discussed much in-depth, it may be good to start fresh.

  • Absolutely! If you decide you would like to start getting acupuncture after your initial Food Therapy & Lifestyle appointment, let me know! We can work together to find an available time for you to start acupuncture.

  • There are a few ways to access your virtual appointment:

    1. On the day of your appointment, you will be emailed a link to join a secure, HIPPA-compliant video call in the patient portal (the account you created when you scheduled your appointment). A few minutes before your appointment, you can click the link “click here to join the session” in the email you receive, and you’ll be taken directly to the video call.

    2. Alternatively, you can also visit the patient portal at your appointment time and click the camera icon next to your appointment time.

    3. You can use the app on your phone or tablet by opening the app and tapping on the camera icon next to your appointment.
